With primary support from the National Science Foundation, the LIFE center is an interdisciplinary collaboration of more than a dozen research groups from the University of Washington, Stanford University, and SRI International focused on understanding the social foundations of human learning. With a diverse set of funding sources, the Institute for Science and Mathematics Education creates partnerships to design, cultivate and study equity-oriented educational practices in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The Institute team maintains an active set of educational program development efforts, interdisciplinary research studies of learning and educational improvement (as part of individual grants and multiple research centers), curriculum design efforts involving novel technologies, and professional development activities for educator and SCIENTIST communities. The research groups associated with LIFE and ISME have a set of additional funded research projects that supplement the work of those organizations.Reporting to Professor Philip Bell, Co-Director of the LIFE Center and Director of ISME, the Financial Manager will manage and provide oversight of budgets and subcontracts. This position will coordinate with the College of Education Dean?s Office staff on human resources, financial, pre- and post- award grant and operational responsibilities, and will meet frequently with PIs and other relevant staff to manage budgets and prepare regular reports.Essential Functions/Major ResponsibilitiesThe Financial Manager will oversee the financial operations of both the CoE LIFE Center and Research Group and ISME, to include handling special projects, evaluating options, advising PIs on fiscal matters and recommending best-course-of-action, and will be responsible for coordinating pre- and post-award fiscal duties with the College of Education Grants Manager and the College of Education Director of Finance and Administration. This position is responsible for working with PIs and staff to provide strong communication and coordination throughout all levels of the organization, as well as with sponsor agencies.
